Before you get into planning how the HTML is going to be coded you should have some idea of how the site is going to look when it is all finished. Having a complete vision of your site will allow you to break the whole down into parts so that you can easily manage the construction of your site. Start by drawing boxes where certain types of information is going to be located. Work on your homepage first, then draw out how the pages on the second tier will look compared to the homepage.

A quick and efficient way to do this is to use the photocopy method. Draw the structure of your site on a blank piece of paper. Make several photocopies of it and use it as a template for the format of your entire site. A similar method is going to be used when actually building your site. The important idea to take away here is that the structure of your website is going to be built separately from the presentation format and the content within your site.

Once you have all of your screens drawn out or filled in, organize them in such a way that the file names of each screen corresponds to the files in your site map.
